I was desperately trying to remember that garage when phoning around as a guy at work uses them and I couldn't remember the name. I have sent the car to Whitepost near Tuffley who say they have done loads of Rovers and will use the modified gasket so hoping that they do a fair job. The only other reason I decided not to go with the first quote in the end is due to having 3 reviews and 2 of them being bad.

    Thanks Guys

    glad you sorted it

Hmmm, might have something to do with having very little oil in the car and doing a longish journey... it only overheated up to about 3/4 last Weds; so I put the blowers on full and hot which dropped the gauge down to half and I managed to get to sainsbury's car park, popped the bonnet and saw no water. Went into Sainsburys bought some water and filled it up; since then it hasn't overheated; but obviously damage was already done.

Arrggh cars; think I will run this one into the ground but make sure I maintain it properly!
