Moving with talktalk and bt just as unhelpful

I am tamping mad!! just spent a good part of 2 hours on the phone to talktalk and BT
To cut a long story short I'm moving next weekend. Phone talktalk to follow the options of *advising* us your moving home. spoke to someone from god only knows where who said I need to phone BT to find out the home number of the new place as I know there is an active line there. Phoned BT... sorry madam we can't give you that information... go back to talktalk who said no 100% you need to speak to BT... back to BT .. sorry madam can't give you that information... back to talktalk speak with a supervisor, you need to talk to BT wholesale... back to BT no talktalk should be doing this for you.... I feel like a ping pong ball. Its still not sorted now and I dont know how to sort it really.

I've had a similar problem, they each blame each other and I spent 2 hours over Easter banging my head against a wall (almost literally!), 4 months down the line still not sorted:mad:

Nothing to do with BT at all. Try registering here - http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/ , about the only way to get any sort of support from TalkTalk.

Will try the forums in a minute.. just phoned the letting agents who are going to try the landlord to see if he has a number for there. Its annoying especially as BT probably had all the information on the screens infront of them but couldn't give it out. I'm reliant on the internet for work and my partner just went down to our new house (we don't have access in there at the moment to test lines ourselves) and we have very poor mobile receptions too so the landline is going to be paramount to us. I just can't do anything until this is sorted

Imagine you were not moving, and someone called TT with your current address and asked for information about you,,tele number, account number, etc..would you expect TT to tell the caller that info ??, if they did and you started to receive abusive calls would you be pi**ed off with TT ??
You call BT and expect them to give you info on an address you have (as far as they know) nothing to do with you, so they tell you to go away....that seems to me the correct thing to do,
If you you are moving and you want to use TT to supply service then its up to you and TT, to arrange it, no one else, that fact that TT told you to speak to BT Wholesale speaks volumes about TT.

Actually what I'm more cross about is the fact that I have been sent from pillar to post with TT not knowing their a**e from their elbow and with BT who I have so many problems with before (won't explain why here as you would be reading until next christmas). Neither company has given me what I would call good quality customer service, even if it wasn't in my favour to give the information, if they had plainly said sorry madam we can't give you that information due to data security I would have accepted that quite happily,

But just for above poster, I could pick any number from the telephone book and start an account. I wasn't asking for the account number, just the telephone number so I could start my own account which I could do if I had that number. BT told me that talk talk should be able to access the same information as them as they rent the lines from the same company.

How do you know the line at the property is a BT Retail line , and not Sky, or Orange or one of the many companys that can provide phone service over BT (openreach) network ?,
My point is that you have chosen to use TT for service so they should do the 'work' on your behalf to get service into the property, not ask you ,( or BT ) to do some of the work for them....I would be tempted to use another provider, but if you want to use TT for phone service then why would BT Retail do anything for you....BTR are not the custodian of the nations telephone records they are just a service provider same as TT.
Blame TT, for your phone related problems, but in this particular case BT appear to be blameless

Oh I agree on this occasion BT have been blameless and TT gave me the run around telling me to do all their hardwork. I spoke again firstly to BT who said that they were able to set up a new account in less that 7 days if I wanted to return as a customer. I then spoke again to TT and spoke to someone quite helpful.. after explaining my run around situation this afternoon and BT's offer and then questioning why they couldn't offer the same promptness ( they said up 3 weeks once I'm moved in) they have offered me cancellation of all their services free of charge. So that's a result in my eyes. Just been on the phone to virgin media, who although not as quick can give me unlimited broadband and phone usage for £35 a month which is more or less what I'm paying now for internet with a download limit and only free weekend calls.

You are a Talk Talk customer, not a BT Retail customer. BT Retail have nothing to do with this so did you stop to question why Talk Talk keep asking you to call them? BT Wholesale is who you require... But Talk Talk are the ones that should be arranging a line connection with them, not you. I can see your frustration, but BT have no obligation to provide you customer service if you are not their customer... The name sorta tells ya that. You should be dealing with Talk Talk only on this one i'm afraid.

Funny, there a similar rant about BT - when another company (in this case O2) is the recalcitrant party - HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Now I stop to think about it I do ask the question why TT are asking me to contact BT, surely if they want my custom then they should be arranging this for me. Thing is I've never moved house before as a non BT customer.. although moving with them was far from problem free and which eventually led to me becoming a tiscali customer (now TT). Well TT phoned again today, offering me a new package but to be honest I think im going to cancel as they've said I can do it cost free and I'll start again with VM.
