New radiator question - size

I'm buying bits for my downstairs cloakroom to be re done and at the moment I have a tiny 400mm radiator with floor rising pipes with centres of 470mm.

I want to have a tall desinger type one put in instead, could do with the extra heat downstairs as the house is so cold.

Anyway these radiators either have centre of 500mm or 420mm.

Which would I be best off going with, I guess the pipes coming out of the floor will have to be bent in a creative way to fit, is that OK??

This link shows what i'm looking at the first top 2.

Thanks

Best to look for an on line heating requirement calculator and find a rad with the correct rating. Bent pipes out of the floor are OK, but it would difficult to bend them now! In your situation, the pipes can be put to the right position using elbow fittings

I think what you need is a radiator extension piece. I have bought a pair myself (from Screwfix) but haven't used them yet.

Using a pair of standard Yorkshire solder ring fittings to make up an off set will take up a minimum of 50mm. As the maximum space that you have to offset is only 50mm you would need to go straight up for one side and have a 50mm offset on the other. This is not very aethetically pleasing but would do the job. It would be much better to go down the extention piece route.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    I've been Money Tipped!
So if i go with the pipe extensions, should I go for the radiator that is a bit wider than my pipe centres? or should I go with the one that is smaller than the centres?

    My centres 470mm

    Radiator 1centres = 500mm

    Radiator 2 centrs = 420mm

    Many thanks

PS designer rads often have poor heat outputs, so check the BTU rating, as it might look nicer, yet offer no extra heat despite being bigger.

I think the OP was asking what would be better if they wanted to use extension peices, in which case it would be smaller ;)

    BUT........

If it is a designer :o radiator and the pipes come out of the radiator pointing straight down as some do....
the only course of action would be to bend the pipes one way or the other as extension peices would be no use.
