DLA Appeal Success

I had been on HRM and MRC DLA for some years when the care component dropped to LRC following a review. I appealled including extra medical evidence.Today I had the good new that my MRC has been reinstated following a reconsideration prior to appeal. What a relief! I hope this helps anybody who is concerned about whether to appeal or not. If you have the evidence it is worth the risk.

I contemplated many times applying for this, moreso when i'm in bed zombiefied and could barely fend for myself. The furtherst I got was ringing up for the application form.

Strange thing is though, I only think about claiming for it, in that comatosed state. And have since realised, moreso what it's for.

Recently, I'm better somewhat, and have 3 good days a week if I pace correctly, but it's a full time job in itself maintaining better health, and a burden on my family.

Me personally, I just don't know if I could fatham using my precious energies to deal with it. The good days I do get, i'm pacing and doing catch up from what i've lost on the bad days.

BamBammy, without my DLA I'd be unable to have driving lessons, wouldn't have been able to buy the bath lift that makes my life so much easier, buy a more comfortable bed that I spend so much of many of my days in, buy my electric wheelchair that enables me to be a little more independent when I'm well enough to be. Our council doesn't give under 60's blue badges without HRM for mobility issues and that badge means that I can go out. Without it I'd be stuck in small spaces that make it near impossible to get my chair out of the car and for me to be able to get out of the car.

All of these things make up for the stress of applying for DLA. There are so many additional costs to being disabled that for some people there isn't really an option NOT to have DLA if they want to be able to live anything going any way to even resembling a normal life.

I'm thrilled for you MECFS, really glad you've got the right award.

babbammy, I just want to point out that DLA can make such a difference. I get lower rate for both components. It means I can afford to pay for someone to take me to the supermarket, I can have rails in my flat to heave myself upstairs, I can have a few gadgets to help me make myself a light meal (I can't use a standard tin-opener for example, so couldn't even open a can of soup without my battery-operated opener)...little things that let me achieve a semblance of normality and independance. ...Also having DLA means my council give me a bus-pass....I couldn't have coped with the forms on my own, but DIAL helped me (OK they did the lot for me!)- you really should contact them, or CAB, and get help.

Thanks Invasion, I am finally moving to live in a cottage next month. This will help with safety concerns with sleep walking. We've installed a low level bath/shower. My children/OH are patient and helpful.

I know how much other life's stresses drains the life out of me, facing applying for DLA always goes on the bottom of my ' to do ' list.

I have certain care/mobility needs, but it varies and not sure if I would qualify, and needs all depends on underlying medical issues, gastro, IBS, sore bones, sleep issues. If i'm slack ( can't even eat a pizza ) and not properly maintaining them all together. I look and feel like something out of a zombie horror movie, and kids/partner step in and aid me. They see and know it's coming before I do sometimes. ( my face goes pale white and It looks like i've got two black eyes, and brusies on my face )

That's why I have never sent the forms away. Just looking at the form, and the prospect of filling it in.

It's always good to read when someone has been successful.

congratulations! just a thought though..........shouldnt social services be providing any adaptations you need?

Brilliant news ME/CFS :j I know you have been waiting to hear for a while - as I was! I know what a relief it is after opening that brown envelope and seeing that decision!

I don't know about you but I read it over a few times to make sure I was reading it correctly It just shows that by writing them a letter it can make a difference, although taking a risk of losing the award. The decision makers must be in a good mood this month!

Technically yes, in reality you're in for a very long wait and you don't necessarily get the things you need, or the way you need them.

Thanks - its a great relief. I noticed a few succesful cases on here - I wonder whether they're trying to put people in a good mood for the election?!
