Thanks for all your advice, you lovely people.

Things have moved on a bit.
We like the look of Le Meridien at Dahab, both the hotel and the location (both diving and non-diving).

On Wednesday we went for a "try dive" with a local diving school.
They were very good and we were both comfortable breathing underwater.

We are now seriously considering doing the PADI course.
The main issue at the moment is that my husband will not fit into hire gear.
Now I know you would want your own suit, mask etc. but ge might have to purchase his own BCD, which of coure will cost extra to transport as we will now be looking at paying excess baggage.
So we need to do a little investigation on the cost fron to make sure the costs are not prohibitive, but at the moment it looks like we might be going diving.

The local place happen to have a holiday to Dahab in August and I like the idea of going with a UK group, however we'll have to see if that fits in with what we want to do.

You have good taste, Le Meridian is fab, ensure you make friends with Adam and Ali on the beach, and they will ensure you get a beach bungalow each day.
The weather is hot, but there is a permanent strong breeze that makes it so much more bearable. Hence why its a popular area for wind related watersports.

There is a dive school at the Le meridian, but also there are 5 or 6 others in Dahab itself. If you do any dive/snorkelling trip you should do the Blue hole.
