  • you should be able to run a 10 or 20 gb drive on it with a clever little utility from maxtor.

    you create a small partition on the drive 512kb (half a gig) and the software utility then mounts the rest in this partition.
    yes i know 19.5 gig wont fit in a half gig partition but thats how it works.

    i got round many bios limitations this way in the good old days.

    the only down side is if later on you want to use the drive on another pc you will need to delete all the partitions to get it to work properly. but it will be fine in your old pc.

    then all you need to do is format the 19.5 gig for your operating system. as previously posted a fat16 partition is (win 95 or earlier) is limited to 2.1gb wheres a fat32 partition can be larger.

    otherwise drop me a line and i will have a look see if i have any small drives still knocking round.

    Overlay Software (all manufacturers have names for these utilities but Overlay Software is the generic term) slows the system down as the CPU has to do the work translating the sector calls to the hard drive. It can also be unreliable.
