If you have a garden centre with a full range of seeds (rather than the selected few that supermarkets etc have) they will have kale seeds. Its part of the cabbage family and tastes like cabbage although not normally a very strong taste. Like a lot of cabbage plants its more of a autumn winter harvest so its a good option for spreading your season. As long as you can keep the slugs off the young plants and caterpillars off the big ones, its fairly easy to grow.

It's a superfood like broccoli and spinach, so well worth growing and eating. Don't worry what it tastes like :D (perfectly palatable)

I looked for kale seeds last year and couldnt find any. Its something I buy rarely because it is so expensive but it is delicious! I usually shred it and stir fry it in olive oil and serve it with ground pepper(+ lots of gravy)....very much like broccili leaves in taste!
Thanks for this Q because its reminded me to look again !

I'm trying red russian kale this year, after seeing it on tv, supposed to be the best tasting kale there is.
But we do like the slightly bitter taste from curly kale, I also grew Sutherland kale (realseeds) this year and we are eating it now, nice leaves and flavour, grew a bit disappointingly last season, but has taken off this spring.

We do ours, with the kale steamed then added to mashed potato, with a smoked sausage and gravy.
But we also eat it just steamed as greens, especially the Sutherland kale this year.

You can buy the seeds anywhere online.
Moreveg might be worth a look as you only need a few seeds.

I like to grow a few of these plants. They're very attractive with their frizzy leaves, and very hardy too. Mine survived all the snow and Minus 5 temperatures this past winter. I'm also trying the scarlet leaved variety this year. I saw some in a walled vegetable garden last year (one of those gardens open to the public under the NGS charity scheme) and it was SO pretty. I imagine it will add a real splash of colour to the vegetable garden in winter when everything is drab and bare. Kale seeds seem to store for ages too. This spring I sowed some which were 5 years old and got an excellent germinate rate so a packet should last for ages.

Interestingly last summer, the cabbage white butterflies made a beeline for my few purple sprouting broccoli plants but left the kale alone.
