CarHire3000.com No Cancellation Charges

Had to change a car hire due to the volcanic ash problem.

Have always used this car hire company because it states quite clearly 'no cancellation fees' however the person on the phone has now informed me that if I cancel within 48hrs of the hire I will lose 3 days of hire costs!

So is 'no cancellation fees' false advertising?

She told me it is in the terms and conditions which seem a bit wishy washy to me!

Can some of you kind people have a look and see if you think I should take my issue further or if I have just been niave!!

Cheers, Jordan.

I booked car hire from carhire3000 yesturday and looking at the website before I paid it i'm sure it clearly said no cancellation fees up until 48 hours before car hire.

Also I just printed off my Rental voucher and under Traveljigsaw general terms it says:
"Revervations which are fully pre-paid at the time of booking may be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the commencement of the rental. Where a reservation originally secured with a deposit payment (Deposit booking) is cancelled more than 48 hours prior to the pick up time then a cancellation fee equal to the deposit amount will be charged. All reservations cancelled within 48 hours of the commencement of the rental will incur a charge equal to 3 days rental or the deposit amount, whichever is greater."

    Seems pretty clear to me?

"Cheap car hire with no cancellation and no amendment fees in the UK, USA, Europe and in over 6000 pickup locations worldwide with free phone support."

    "We only use leading suppliers
    Compare prices
    Dedicated customer services
    UK based call centre
    No Cancellation fees
    No Amendment fees
    No Credit card fees"

Main page T&Cs don't mention it either (the "full" T&C are under the bullet points above!).

Durning the order T&Cs are different and show...

    "Traveljigsaw General Terms
...Reservations which are fully pre-paid at the time of booking may be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the commencement of the rental. Where a reservation originally secured with a deposit payment (Deposit Booking) is cancelled more than 48 hours prior to the pick up time then a cancellation fee equal to the deposit amount will be charged. All reservations cancelled within 48 hours of the commencement of the rental will incur a charge equal to 3 days rental or the deposit amount, whichever is the greater. This also applies to no shows in resort; including non-receipt of vehicle due to insufficient documentation. Traveljigsaw is unfortunately not able to refund any unused days or part days if the vehicle is returned early on any rental."

    So,
-Paid full amount + cancel before 48hrs = full refund
-Paid deposit + cancel before 48hrs = charged deposit value as cancellation fee
-Cancel within 48hrs = 3 days value or deposit value as cancellation fee (which ever is highest)

So, there T&Cs say they will charge you. Which to me is false advertising as everywhere it says No Cancellation Fees.

The main T's and C's say that you are bound by the 3rd party companies T's and C's which may include cancellation charges.

So what they are saying is that they personally will not charge for any cancellations, but as they are only a broker, the supplying company may charge.

Aye, it doesn't mention cancellation though, just third party T&Cs vary. Very hard to find (specifically oooked through for text relating to cancellation, 48hrs etc so missed it).

And very sneaky - I still think it's a bit false of them to claim no cancellation fees on their main page.

Thanks for the responses. I did find the information in the terms and conditions and accept that they wont pay third party's cancellation fees.

Just thought it was misleading to make a big point about no cancellation fees when there are some.

    Glad someone agreed with me.
