Nope, but then I wouldn't use a pressure washer on a baby either (although with some of the nappies DS used to produce I have been tempted)

No, I dont use a pressure washer on the car either - its not necessary. A pressure washer could actually drive dirt into the paint. You can also end up blasting the clearcoat off if you get the nossle too close. Its possible to damage tyre sidewalls and valves if you get too close as well. Just a hose with mains pressure water works fine.

Thanks everyone - am going to get all the bits I need (and bin the sponge!) and give it a go!!

If it turns out to be too much like hard work I guess I can always pay to have it valeted every week!!;)

  • Have a look at one of the better 'Detailer' Forums, you will find lots of great info from both Pro's and obssesive amatuers, who treat their wheels better than their other half!!
I find Detailing World to be good, start with thith the Wash, Drying & Clays thread but also Eco Friendly is eye opening and worth looking at.

The thescouselander's link is a good one as well

There is a guide on the autotrader website

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/CARS/FEATURES/wash_the_car_complete_expert_guide.html

I personally use a Meguiars Lambswool Wa!!!!!t, autoglym car wash and a Meguiars water magnet drying towel.

    w a s h m i t

Standard hosepipe rinse before and after.

I may upgrade to the 2 bucket method if I feel i can handle the laughs from the g/f!

I use a wash mits and synthetic leathers for my own cars. On the company car I virtually exclusively use a nice car wash - because after 3 years who cares.

If my OH when she got her shiny new toy is anything to go by you do……

3 months of loving hand washing using the recommended equipment
6 months of token in the slot mechanicial washes
and then it’s back to normal where she just aims at puddles on the road to wash the car.

No expert myself, hubby washes my car, hes a car painter so reckons he knows a thing or two about paint.

He rinses it first, then uses bucket and sponge (always washes wheels last), then leathers it off if he has time.

Oh yes, bird poo, if I get home from work with a blob on my car hubby wants to know why I wasn't out in my dinnerhour cleaning it off, yeh right.

Which is the best way to wash my new beloved one??

Also is it true that you should remove bird poo asap?? I live on the south coast and the seagulls really don't seem tolike me!!

Try Proshine or Showroom Shine waterless washes, I`ve spent a fortune on other waxes and sealants and eventually found these give excellent results.
Don`t be put off by people who have never used it and say it scratches and causes swirls because it doesn`t.
