    Thanks Tomthumb,

I've been to Freeport, but to be honest it was pants (so bad I'd actually forgotten I'd been) ... but I do love Blackpool!
    Gone ... or have I?

    Hi Dmg,

I'm really glad you've chosen Liverpool, we've just had loads of redevelopment which is by no means over. Places maybe try to go for shopping are the Met Quarter (more designer shops so if you fancy upmarket this is it) which is just around the corner from thew famous Matthew Street. Soon there's the Matthew Street Festival which is a multi venue music festival and you can see great bands and performers for free. That's around the August Bank holiday. Church street is the main shopping street, but there's Bold Street, adjacent to a big horse sculpture, you can't miss, up there are all really good coffee shop. We also have help points and tourism wardens around the city but there is merseytravel in Queens Square, the bus station, they will give you maps and tell you of things to do. Alternative or quirky shopping try Quggins which has relocated to the old Barcelona Bar, Renshaw Street (again just off Bold Street), just ask for the Barcelona and anyone will be able to tell you.

Fancy a bit of culture, there's William Brown street with museums, art galleries and the library, across the road from here (William Brown street is behind St George's Hall) is the Empire Theatre, a stone's throw from LIme Street Station.
Eating out and going for a drink, try Alma De Cuba, they serve food, you get all the cocktails and some tasty food, the liverpool players went there after the Fa Cup Final. On Duke Street is a Tepanyaki restaurant, Sapporo, which is great, this is also off Bold street, We have FACT which shows world cinema films and is great to while away the hours.

Try Albert Dock for more boutique style shops and the swankiest bars, like the Baby Blue and Blue Bar, they do lovely food too. Tate Liverpool is here too and like all the other galleries and museums is free to get in.

Celebrity spotting try The Newz Bar, Blue Bar and Baby Blue, apparently footballers and soap stars are seen there frequently. Try this link:

which should give you some ideas about what to do.

Cheshire Oaks is no more than a hour or so's drive through the Kingsway tunnel, there is a small fee for the journeys but you can just fly through the operator free tolls, try to avoid rush hour as it does get really busy.

There are loads of hotel in liverpool, the Adelphi which is old style but loads of modern ones, including a brand new one not a million miles from the Liver Builidings, try this link:

The picture on this website is St Georges Plateau so you know where St George's hall and the museums are now!!!!

Anyway I'll finish now because this is sounding like war and peace but you can pm or whatever if you want to know more. Hth and you don't fall asleep through reading it, lol!!!! :p

Sorry Siren, but what do you drive????? A C5? A pushbike? Fred flintstones car? Cheshire Oaks is max 25 mins from Liverpool - please don't think I'm being snippy (well maybe a teensy bit), but don't want to give the OP the impression its further than it is.
