Yes, you can renew you tax credits over the phone single or joint, and also send a letter to the HMRC with the figures. The letter is a must, because once my figures weren't entered on their system and I had to pay for overpayment!

    Phone and Letter
  • You can renew over the phone no matter what your circumstances. An annual review only requires one signature to process through the system and a telephone call counts as a signature since most calls are recorded.

If you renew by phone within 2 to 3 weeks you should receive a letter confirming your Tax Credit payments over the next year. If you don't receive this letter then call again and double check the annual renewal has been processed fully as it may have dropped on a worklist to be reviewed.
  • Hi TaxCreditsHelp
Quick Question for you hope you dont mind?
We recieved our renewal pack on monday so I did the renew straight away then we had a letter from the Specialist Team so I rang them on tuesday to redo it all went through fine, how long will it take to process our new award? we used to receive our award 4 weekly so never really noticed how long it took as it was always done before the next payment. We are expecting an underpayment payment as OHs income was an estimated and we were £4k under what was estimated, a friend of mine a few years back had a underpayment and she got it added to her new awards payments for the new year would we get a lump sum or would they add it on to future payments?
Thank you so much in advance
  • You should received a letter within the next 2 to 3 weeks if your renewal has been processed completely. This letter will detail your Tax Credits award and payments for 2010/2011. If you have an underpayment for 2009/2010 this may be paid as a lump sum or may be used to offset an overpayment in another year.
