Did The BODY SHOP assistant manager just rip me off?

There is actually one more thing I didn't mention that might be the reason for her problem with me... and it's a bit more serious.
Even though I have been living here for years, I still have my Canadian accent. Now, of course most non-north americans wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Canadian accent and an American accent, and because there's such a 'stigma' associated with Americans, people like to ignorantly assume that I am in fact American and treat me as such. I wasn't going to mention it but I will now as I'm absolutely fed up of never getting any sort of respect for who I am and how I behave myself rather than what people ignorantly assume I am based on what they think I sound like.0 -
Sorry I didn't make myself very clear, I wasn't excusing her behaviour towards you at all, and (although I don't work for TBS) I would have thought you should have had your discount on the other items or if that wasn't possible on the same transaction, done a second transaction , so not only was she beyond rude, she also processed your transaction inccorectly. As you say it is the company's policy therefore she has to follow it through .0

Sorry I didn't mean it to sound like I was having a go at you! I was just using that post as a platform to further develop my thoughts.
Thanks again for all your comments0 -
Coming a bit late to this discussion, but BS is a franchise so is there any point writing to Head Office? The shop is run by the owner/manager /franchisee so any poor service is going to affect her profits, not those of BS.0

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for pointing it out. I suppose I can go into the branch to find out the name of the Store Manager and send her a copy as well.0

Hi there
Adding my bit right at the end - I not sure that all TBSs were franchises - only certain ones. Normally you can tell on, say, a coupon as it will exclude the franchised shops.

i actually had a nasty experience in the Body Shop today too. Usually they are so friendly and nice and i went up to pay for my items and she said 'oh you finally found something then' then an awkward fake laugh.
how rude!0 -
Tut tut, what's it to her how long you take to choose something you're going to PAY for?!!! That's unbelievable!0

Sorry you had such a bad experience in The Body Shop! I worked for them as a sales assistant for 2 years and generally the staff are well trained and are meant to be friendly but obviously everyone has their bad days! This assistant manager sounds particularly rude though and I also think she was wrong not to give your lyb discount on top of your £5 birthday gift. In the store i worked in we were trained to take off the lyb discount first then deduct the £5 birthday gift (as long as the 10% deduction didn't take the customer below £5).
I think you are correct to write to The Body Shop head office as they take customer service very seriously and the store will be informed and the issue will be dealt with!
I hope it all works itself out.
Also in response to Beenie not all Body Shops are franchises, in fact most of them are company owned (they bought a lot of previously owned franchises back)2013 wins = .......0 -

Oh come on now , we all agree you were treated a bit rudely , we all agree you should write to complain and we all agree you should get a voucher or something BUT to now accuse someone of being racist or ignorant IS OTT
"People like to ignorantly assume" It is not ignorance , you do sound like some Americans and vice versa, i travel to America a lot, i speak English and many Americans ask me if i am from Australia, that is not ignorant?
And WHAT Stigma? Maybe the Canadians and the Americans feel there is a Stigma but dont IGNORANTLY assume that British feel there is a stigma attaced to Americans (and treat you as such) Blimey i do sound harsh but you do sound like you have a chip on your shoulder about something and everybody is horrible to you based on. mmmm. your own thoughts.
SO i am not being horrible to you, i just want you to take a look at what you have written, think about how what you have written may offend people and really put things in perspective, you were treated unfairly or rudely, complain, move on
