I can hardly see the government putting pressure on a bank, regardless of whether they had a stake or not, to keep open credit card accounts for people who aren't even using them. It's not as if its hard to get by without a credit card.
I agree that they are not particularly desirable but they do have uses .So how do you go on for purchase protection without credit card then? In the case of my mother's card she had in fact used it in the last 12 months for purchase protection on an item
I'm sure that those travellers stranded abroad and trying to get back to UK have probably found a credit card to be of use too0 -
Same here OP. Got a letter from Halifax recently saying the same thing. We didn't owe them and hadn't used the card in a while so it was no big deal but it's just not nice being dumped.

Yeah, many people have received same letter from Halifax. They have suddenly decided to do house keeping by dumping wise customers who dont fancy spending and getting into debt0

And anyway, this whole argument of 'us' owning the banks is nonsense. The government bought a number of shares in Lloyds Banking Group and therefore if the company profits, so does the government and therefore the people. I wish everyone could get their heads around it!Getting married 02.08.14

Your argument would make sense if it wasnt for the fact that the government actually had to borrow the money to purchase the shares.0 -
So if it's borrowed it's not tax payer's money!Getting married 02.08.14
