halifax credit card cancelled

in Credit cards
My mother has just had a letter from Halifax closing her credit card account within 30 days - they quote a review of Equifax files - the point is that she does not owe them anything and noone else either. She has another credit card that she can use for purchase security etc but this struck me as rather bizarre behaviour
Wondered why? Presumably because they can't make money out of her?

Has she asked them? Or got hold of a copy of her credit file to make sure there's nothing untoward on it?Getting married 02.08.14
Wins for the wedding: membership for a 'wedsite' and app, £35 gift voucher for party supplies shop, £50 worth of hand painted signs, 1kg of heart shaped marshmallows :money:0 -
No - probably ought to do that. Suspect it might be because it is little used with zero balance0

That will be it, it costs money for a bank to keep a card open, so if it's not making money they will close it. Plus for every open card they must provision money (based on Credit Limit) in case the card goes bad. all in, if the card isn't profitable they will try and close it.0

In the case of my now retired mother she has saved with them for years!0 -

No - the government have a circa 41% in Lloyds Banking Group through UKFI. But "we" the people do not own the government, and thus do not own what they do.0 -
I've had one of these, I wasn't using my Sainsbury's card, they are just reducing their 'bad debt provision' thing.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I got one from Halifax too. I haven't used the card for over a year so guess they're just doing a bit of housekeeping!
I actually wrang them on Monday to close the account - you'd think they would have mentioned then that they were already doing it0 -

Ex-tax payers money - its the governments now and they can do whatever they want with it.
I can hardly see the government putting pressure on a bank, regardless of whether they had a stake or not, to keep open credit card accounts for people who aren't even using them. It's not as if its hard to get by without a credit card.0
