ACER Laptops at Tesco's - URGENT Advice Please

My local Tesco have the following Acer Laptops on sale:
AS5601AWIHI Acer Aspire Centrino at £599
AS3634WIMI Acer Aspire at £499
TM2414WLMI Acer Travelmate at £299
The Travelmate looks a bit too lightweight on RAM, ROM etc.
I'm therefore looking at one of the other two as possible purchase. Only require for surfing and usual WP and Spreadsheet type functions. Bit too old (and slow) for gaming and the like. Also like to use to watch DVD's when away from home. Can they be used to view any region DVD (or unlocked if set to region 2)?
Any suggestions and advice on either of these or any similar priced (or cheaper?) alternatives that may offer better value for money.
As Tesco usually sell out quickly, would like advice ASAP if possible please.
Many thanks.

i bought the 5601 on tuesday as a second laptop - very happy with it.
The 3634 might be ok for what you need, but for a hundred quid more i think the 5601 is better value. Esp with a double points coupon
As with all windows you can change your region 5 times, but there is also software available to set the region to whatever you want.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
In my opinion, the Travelmate would be fine for you. I would advise upgrading the memory to at least 512Mb, which you should be able to do for under £35. If you will only be using it for internet access, office applications etc it will be absolutely fine - certainly not worth spending another couple of hundred anyway.
You can set the DVD players to any region, but it usually involves a hack of some sort - they don't normally work in the same way as normal dvd players (where you can just enter a code).
Personally, I think the Travelmate is an excellent buy and would certainly recommend that.
Mind if I ask which store you've seen with stock?0 -
The two tesco Extras in Coventry have stock of both, get replenished weekly too.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

Don't mind at all. I've sent you a PM in case they all go before I get back to get one, perhaps?0 -

I was going to buy the tesco laptop but managed to get am acer aspire 3613WMLi elsewhere with 1024mb DDR 2,40gb hdd,DVD RW,1.5ghz , secondhand for #340.00I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

I bought the TM2414WLMI Acer Travelmate from Tesco Lee Mill last night for my brother. Opened it up last night to have a look at it and was very impressed for the price. As he's only going to use it to surf the net and store photos I think it is ideal.Matched betting profits since 11/10/06 = £1,5540

Have to agree with you, I bought one yesterday but wasn't sure if I would keep it or not. Having opened the box this morning to have a look I'm very impressed

There has been some comments about how flimsy the cases are on the Acer Laptops.
Any comments from those of you that have now been “impressed” when opening the box!!!0
