Gas man not given me safety certificate

Hi
I rent out a property in a different city to where I live. I arranged for the annual gas safety review and found a local man from the Gas Safety register. We spoke on the phone and arrange for him to go and do the gas safety review. I was not present but my tenant was and let him in to do it.
Before the day he went I asked him how he would like to be paid. I offered to pay him directly into his bank account but he declined and said he wanted a cheque. Fair enough. So he completed the review, said everything was all fine and sent me an invoice.
I sent him a cheque which he promptly cashed (30th March) and to this day I have not received the certificate, neither have my tenants.
I called him about it and he said 'oh did you not get it' I'll send it again. (!?) Alarm bells or what.
I rang him back today (a week later) and as soon as I told him who I was, he hung up the phone. I've tried calling back but the phone is 'temporarily unavailable'.
What can I do? I am concerned now he has taken £50 of my money and I do not have a certificate for my house, neither do my tenants.
Where do I stand?
Any help/advice gratefully received.

Report him to Gas safe (assuming you have his registration number?).
In terms of getting a certificate, you'll have to go somewhere else straight away if your previous one has expired.0 -
I assume you remember his name/company, look him up on the Gas Safe Register and see if Gas Safe have a complaints procedure.0

Report him immediately. I work in the gas industry, gas safe will have his details, otherwise contact your local trading standards.0

id be interested to know what the outcome is.
usually if hes a registered engineer and does landlords in a paper format its a standard routine to give your tennant a copy and foward a copy onto yourselves and i think theres a legal obligation to at least have it to you within 28days.
Im sure gas safe will be very interested to hear from you and if he is legit hes bringing unwanted heat onto himself.0
