Old style curry recipe?

Hi all. I'm hoping someone can work out what I mean. I'm looking for a recipe for "old style" chicken curry. The sort of thing I can remember them serving in cafeteria's and canteens. Would be very mild, often with sultana's and possibly apple in it. Very much I suspect a British invention and nothing like either Indian restaurant food, or genuine Asian.

Can anyone help?

Thanks :)

Oh this is my favourite retro curry sauce which I think sounds pretty much like what you are looking for (you could add sultanas if you likes, I don't like them in savoury food) but we have this with leftovers, rice and chips (for that true retro pub curry feel lol)

From the Dairy book of home cooking:
    2 onions-finely chopped
    clove garlic(optional)
2tbsps curry powder (I use tescos medium curry powder)
    1 tbps flour
    2 cloves (i dont use)
    1 tbsp tom puree
1/4 tsp each of ground ginger&cinammon
2 tbsp sweet pickle/chutney (mango chutney works the best)
    1 tbsp lemon juice
    3 tsps sugar
    1/2 pint water or stock
1/2-1 tsp salt (i dont add)

    very simple recipe-
Use some oil, fry onion/garlic until soft and pale gold. Stir in curry powder and flour, add cloves puree ginger cinammon chutney lemon juice and sugar. (cook for a minute or two)
slowly add stock/water. bring to the boil, turn temp right down and cook for 3/4 hour to 1 hour.

I usually add cooked leftover meat to it, but you can add cubed chicken when you start to simmer it for it to cook in the sauce.
    PS all spoons are level
