Thomas Cook deposit - any experiences with amendments?

Hi everyone,
I am posting the hope that someone will read this and be able to share their past experience on similar situations. I just hope my post won't get drowned in volcanic ash
(I hope it is not too soon to make jokes about this)!!
I made a deposit of 250£ for a holiday to Turkey in August and need to pay the full amount till the end of the month.
Now I am having second thoughts since I may need the time in August to work and not holiday... It is impossible to get any travel company to answer their phones at the moment, and I am wondering if it would be worth changing my holiday to something different, perhaps shorter, later in the year, somewhere closer... I would hate to lose the deposit. I don't know if this is even possible... Any experience with this sort of thing?
Thanks in advance.

Hi i was able to keep my deposit with first choice last year when i had to change my holiday. Changed it to go later in the year. The amendment fee was £35 per person.0 -
have you recieved your paperwork? Who did you book with in store or online.
If it was instore just pop in and have a word with them, If it was online, you may find that you rlocal branch now deals with you so again either ring up or pop inYou can amend names and dates, but with dates you have to remeber that there will be an increase in price that you will be liable for, plus im not sure if nexts years dates have been released yet.
So it depends on how much you've paid for your holiday, you'll have to weigh up the pros and cons of losing £250 or paying an extra £70 to change date and a possible price hike.
Think its £35 per person for an amendmaent.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -
Thanks pricesswoo and charlieb02.
I did book online and I find the lines are always jammed to discuss my options.
I am kind of hoping that if I rebook for later in the year I will be able to save the deposit.0 -
I have changed twice with Thomas Cook and both times been very helpful.
Hope you get it sorted.:money: giving me & my darling boys a better cheaper life
:A0 -
but it will cost £35 per person - you need to decide before you have to pay balanceTitch

thanks guys!
another question: if I change the type of holiday. at this moment I have a package holiday booked for turkey. would I be able to change to a different destination without incurring more than the £35? would I be able to change for for example dubai, which is not a package but a hotel+flight type of holiday?
PS: I will let you know how it turns out, once I am able to speak to them. In the mean time it is great to get some feedback and advice.0 -
Hi all just to add another telephone number for Thomas Cook. This is the number that they called me from when I requested a call back (bearing in mind I wanted to move flights forward so not sure if this number could be used for baggage allowance but worth a shot) 08712302406 flythomascook.com. HTHs. Oh and we were charged £25 pp per flight0

you will be able to change it to any holiday that is in the normal brochures (thomas cook summer etc ), Dubai and places that use scheduled airlines i'm afraid you wont be able to change to.
it must also be a Thomas Cook holiday so no changing to First Choice for example
will be £35 per person per change.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0
