Makita drill problems any help / ideas?

Hi,
I have a Makita drill with a keyless chuck. Got the drill out the other day and found that I couldn't turn the chuck at all either way to insert a bit!! It just doesn't move.

I think the last time I used the drill I mixed up some adhesive and haven't used it since so have no idea why it is refusing to turn.

Has anyone any ideas as to what I can do? Can i fix it or will and can the chuck be replaced? Any clue as to how much this would cost?

Thanks in advance

We have had three Makita drills go back to screwfix for replacement. Fourth time lucky. I shouldn't speak too soon but the last has lastest the longest, almost a year now.

If you bought yours from screwfix they have a very good customer service department and replace items with no quibble.

I didn't get it from Screwfix, got given it as a present a few years back. Any idea how much a new chuck is likely to cost and do you just unscrew old one and replace?

    Thanks

I would contact Makita UK In their accessories section they have chucks so you should be able to find your part number. They say on their service care page that they look after equipment long after it has passed the warranty/guarantee time. It may be worth giving them a call tomorrow.
I found this number on the website. Sorry I don't know how to remove chuck but hopefully someone else will.

i used to work for a plant hire company. we only used makita drills etc..
never had a problem getting any parts. and we used to order parts nearly every week.
we had own own makita parts bins, full of commonly used parts.
we had hundreds of drills for/on hire.
    Get some gorm.

Screwfix policy changed recently they send faulty items away for repair first now .

I had the same problem with my Bosch. I sprayed WD40 down and around the chuck mechanism, left it an hour and bingo.

WD40 would be my first port of call, if that doesn’t work then swapping the chuck is easy.

There is almost always an allen head locking screw inside the chuck, this locks the chuck to the spindle, they are normally left hand thread so clockwise to undo it. Once you’ve undone it you can unscrew the chuck from the spindle in the normal way. Reverse the process to reassemble.

You could easily get stuck looking for why this happened,

You can buy a cheap chuck for about a tenner, so I wouldn't expect a Makita one to be more than say £30.
