is this quote reasonable?
Hi evryone,
First time i have posted on this part of the forum but here goes.
I had the checked out and i found out the alternator (fan) belt needs replacing and i think the CAM belt does to. Now i was recommended to the car to a certain garage which i phoned up and booked the car in.
Now i was quoted £235 inc vat for the belts and labour. Is this quote reasonable?
I have phoned an autopart shop up and they said £36 is the price of both belts inc vat.Told the garage this and they said the belts are rubbish and the ones they would install are from the dealership.
Do you think i should pay the £235 or go somewhere else? I am just being unreasonable? If i am please tell me. Just had a load of trouble with a different over our old car and really can't be dealing with more hassle.
Thanks

You've not stated what vehicle, but £235 for a cambelt change isn't unreasonable. Just ensure they change the tensioners as well as the belts (the garage should get a cambelt kit and not just the belts) and whilst the car is in bits get them to fit a new water pump too - this shouldn't add much to the total cost.0

Hi Dave thanks for your help

Sorry about that, thought i had written it down
, the car is a Peugeot 306 turbo diesel estate R reg.
I'm not sure about the tensioners i'll have to phone up and check . I will ask him about the water pump as well.
Thanks again

Tensioners and plastic pulley's, Change them all if your keeping the car.
I changed my cambelt on a 1997 petrol mondeo, Luckily i did the whole kit, Belt looked OK but you never can tell.
When i put the old stuff in the box i spotted cracks all around the plastic pulley's.
I reckon they would have failed fairly soon after changing just the belt.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
