Money off father

Hi
Unemployed for 7 months after 17 years of shift work. Down to a couple of quid. My father has just given me £3K.
Can I put this in the bank?
Will I have to explain where it came from etc?
Thanks

If it is a one off payment, it will be counted as capital and you do not need to declare it unless you are over the £6,000 lower limit.

If you are receiving regular payments, you will need to declare these as they *may* be classed as income.
    Gone ... or have I?
