Student Finance Mess Up

Hello, My girlfriend started university last september doing a primary education course...

When applying for finance we did income assessed, sent in all documentation etc, and she got tuition fees and minimum maintenance grant...

We have just reapplied for next years finance and were told, we never recieved your proof of income last year so you did not get assessed for bursarys, grants etc...

We are going to re-send the documentation tonight and hopefully get the grants repaid.

She is doing a Primary Education course at MMU, and I have also just seen this on their pages...

Students whose household income is below £21,000 may receive a bursary of £1025; students whose household income is more than £21,001 and below £40,000 may receive a bursary of £475.

If you are a new Initial Teacher Trainee (ITT) you will receive a minimum maintenance grant of £1,106 irrespective of your household income. Further information is available on the DirectGov web site

Do you think that they will be able to backdate the ITT grant... We have tried phoning them, but we can't get through...

Kind Regards

Is your GF assessed as an independent student?
  • No, she has been assessed as a dependant as she still lives with both her parents...

They just neglected to tell us that even though we applied for assessed that they never recieved the information we send and processed it without assessing the household income...
