How do you go about adding a name to an active account? Does it have to be done in branch?

generally speaking you don't convert an account, you open a new one in joint names.
I would certainly recommend doing it that way - you can just transfer funds from your personal account to the joint account as necessary.0 -

Oh, I just assumed that was the way to go about it, as that is what we did years ago with Natwest. I had an account, & they just added my Husband onto it. I don't really want to open another account.0 -
well you should be free to do this if you *really* want to, however, it's far more advantageous to maintain a personal and joint account.
Not least because if one of the accounts gets the card blocked for any reason then you still have a way to access your cash.0 -
Hi Bev,
This from Lloyds website;
"Make it a joint account
If you want this account to be a joint account simply open the account in your name then add someone else to the account at your nearest branch"
You can just add someone to your account (as I recently got married, and added my wife). They will be credit searched, and need the usual proof for setting up an account.
You can then set up two sets of logins for internet/telephone banking, and also get seperate cards/cheque books so you can always access the account if both are blocked.0
