I needed a new starter motor, got a bloke in a van from gumtree to have a look.
He quoted me 150 for a new one fitted, he took the old one off and said be back tomorrow with new one. He took 75 quid deposit and my keys, said see you tomorrow.
He rang me last night saying the quote he got for the starter motor was wrong, it will be 80 plus vat total now fitted will be 225 quid. My car is only worth 500 quid. Its an R reg civic 1.5i vtec.
It seems for too expensive for just a change of starter motor, I have found them online for 25 quid for my car. I wish Id had a go at changing it myself now.
What can I do, he can keep the 75 quid deposit but I need my keys back. I dont want to pay more than original quote.

tell him to keep the £75 and bring your keys back
i think there are 2 types of starter motor fitted bosch or denso which can affect the price.
what i do is qoute the price for both and stick to the price (saves hassle)
tell him you want your keys back.
it seems like he's qouting £145 labour which is too steep (is only 2 bolts and 2 wires).0 -
Er no, if he quoted you £150 then that's the deal. If he wants to change it, he can return your starter motor, and your £75 deposit, and clear off.0

Thanks for good advice, Im trying to get keys and money back but hes not happy.
In all fairness I can see it from his point of view, I want to try and sort out so we are both happy.0
