Big brother is watching! I appreciate the intervention however I already called 0800 500 700 which I believe connects me to the same department as 0800 011 3986 and explained my predicament. It was the local branch who later called me back to arrange a replacement and who informed me that HQ were unlikely to authorise a genuine screen. Obviously that's contradictory to the experience of thescouselander above.

I always said Autoglass could be relied on, and was the best company in the world
Now I have a windscreen that needs replacing but it's not an insurance job.......

Why not try giving them another call - they are obviously taking an interest.

Hi there, I had an encounter with Autoglass a few months back. My windscreen had a crack so I called to get it replace, but I insisted on genuine glass. However, I had to call up my insurance company and argued for ages and finally got OEM glass because I said that it was a Renault car which was being insured, therefore renault glass should be used. Therefore, I finally got my Renault Clio fitted with genuine Renault glass - but they say it is no more than a Renault stamp on the glass!

BTW - the rain hit me as well so the appointment had to be rescheduled or drive to the fitter.

A/G do offer that their glass is as good as OEM so you may want to persue them under that avenue. On the basis that the original was not the fairground mirror option
I had a glass which was sililarly distorted some years ago and they were very good about it and just replaced it without question. They would not normally replace with OEM because it is more expensive and therefore reduces their profits as their discounts are pre arranged with the insurers. The whole ethos of the company is that they are doing the job cheaper than if you went to your local garage which is why insurers use them to cut costs and in theory reduce premiums. However screens are now very complicated and expensive so isurers have caught a bit of a cold by continuing to cover them. Some policies can be bought without cover for screens at a reduced rate.
