Room thermostat for central heating
Options
I dont know if my question can be answered on here, but does it make much difference to gas heating costs if there is a room thermostat fitted.
the boiler is a combi with controls on the radiators. This is at a house that I am considering buying. Ive got a thermostat at my current house & was wondering what it would involve in having one fitted if I buy this house & if it will make a difference to the cost & efficiency of the heating.

It depends how the system is configured. If ALL the radiators (except maybe the bathroom) have thermostats on them, then there would be little, if anything, to gain by having a room stat. Set the timer the way you would now and let the individual rooms heat up to the level required - this may even work out more economical for you as you don't have to heat all the rooms to the same level.0 -
It was common practice years ago to not have a wall thermostat, but now is mandatory.
However if you have TRVs on the radiator, what purpose do room thermostats serve? Why should the room in which the thermostat is situated control the heating in the rest of the house?0 -
You might as well fit a proper digital programmer (wired or wireless), the cost difference is about £30.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
