Is there any way to cut out fees when buying?

OK, I already own a house and managed to purchase cash so I have never had to worry too much about mortgage fees, now however I need a nicer house in a nicer area, I have done quite a bit of research about the various fee's such as stamp duty, valuation fees, conveyancing (sic) etc. My question is :-
Which fees can be cut out? and can and individual do any of the legal work to save fee's as well?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
To cut fees, you can see what on line conveyancers are available. There are many online services offering fixed price conveyancing (including searches) and online tracking systems to keep you up to date. Not all searches are compulsory. Another way of cutting fees is to ask your solicitor to use a Personal Search Company. Many solicitors in the past used to go straight to the council. This is more expensive and more time consuming. Personal search companies can do it quicker and at a fraction of the cost and now account for around 50% of house purchases. These searches are approved by the majority of mortgage lenders. Most search companies do not deal direct with the public but through solicitors. A good information website is https://www.crasearches.co.uk
Hope this helps0
