Credit Card - Failed direct Debit.

I had my CC 'Virgin' try and grab a direct debit from my account
Problem being i paid off the CC a few days before it was due .. and this is stated in the account activity .. But 3 days later they Tried and grab the money from my account .

Sadly i had already canceld the direct debit at my bank and Virgin have charged me £12 for it ?

Is this right ??

  • Technically it is right, but you should give them a ring.

I've just had a similar situation with Nationwide, although in my case, I hadn't paid it off beforehand. I rang them this afternoon and they refunded the £12, even though I didn't ask for it back and was just ringing to check if they were going to place a marker on my credit report. Virgin also took a direct debit even though my card had been paid off last year, and ringing them got the payment refunded with no problem.

yes its a bit of a different situation

If i had canceled my DD and had a outstanding ballance i could understand them charging me £12 for it

But the CC was cleared . 0 debit

So i dont get how they could justify it ?

i posted the same thing a few days ago....cancelled direct debit with bank, paid virgin in full, 10days later they try to take the direct debit even though no money is owed and then charge me £12. I phoned expecting them to refund it this once but they won't, i'm writing them a letter stating i'm not happy and i will close the account, have cut up cards already.

I don't see how they can justify it either but not sure where to complain next.

It's in their T&C's, you'll get nowhere with a complaint, but you might get somewhere with a polite conversation (no guarantee though) - YorkshireBoy's already copy and pasted the part from the DD instruction letter in one of the other recent threads about this - think there's been about 4 or 5 in the last week?
