Replaced gas supply pipe and damaged my property

Dear All,

The main gas supply pipe from the road to my external meter box has been replaced by British Gas and/or their contractors. They haven't done a particularily good or careful job. The meter box no longer fits neatly against the wall, and, they've made a complete mess of the brickwork/render where they've obviously ripped the old supply pipe out. Needless to say they haven't made any attempt to make good their damage.

Before (if) I embark on a fight with them, what's my legal position in terms of forcing them to redress the situation and return it to a neat and tidy condition?

British gas have nothing to do with the mains pipes these days, whereabouts in the country are you as your location will dictate which gas transporter (the company that owns the pipes) you will need to contact regarding the reinstatement.

Rather than "embarking on a fight" with them contact the appropriate gas net work and tell them and give them a chance to sort it out for you.
