Are HSBC part of any other banking group?

Question as above,as my dad is looking to open a savings account with the HSBC, but is a bit wary about having more than the safe limit in 1 banking group etc,if they are linked with any other banks/building societies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, with the names of any other banks linked to the HSBC.

    First Direct.

However, HSBC would be one of the last banks to collapse if they did!

HSBC are the parent group. They own First Direct and Marks and Spencer Money. But you get £50,000 protection separately with HSBC and M&S Money.
