Should I bother getting my car serviced every year
Have a diesel Rover 25 but am only doing about 6,000 miles a year. Is it really worth spending the £100 for a service every year. Have serviced the car every year (since new - coming up to 5 years old) and last year it had quite a major service which included the cambelt being changed. Now approving 56000 miles.....

Yes you should have it serviced. Not just because it prolongs the life of the car, but also as its an oportunity to make sure its safe. The L series engine in the R25 diesel needs to be serviced regulary or else expect to be standed on the roadside - servicing diesels is more important than petrol0

My car's 12 years old and I still have it serviced regularly. I have it serviced, and it doesn't break down. It's a deal we have.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
You'll probably lose more money when you come to sell it than you'll have saved by not servicing it..0

After a year even if its not used much parts will corrode or become weak.
A service should pick these up before any damage occurs.

I've choosen not to service my car. I bought it for the sole purpose of doing over 100 miles a day for the next 9 months at least. I'm guessing, even with a regular service, I ain't gonna get much money back on it due to the mileage It'll be doing.
I do get regular oil and filter changes tho', which is a basic service. I always get repairs done promptly too.0 -
I don't do a lot of miles per year but I do get it serviced. Use a smaller local one and you'll save money." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Assuming you're talking about doing 27,000 miles in 9 months, I guess it depends on how old the car is and how many miles it's already done.the_devil_made_me_do_it wrote:I'm guessing, even with a regular service, I ain't gonna get much money back on it due to the mileage It'll be doing.
If like my 5-year-old car, yours has already done 135,000 miles, then you're right.
If like my girlfriend's 3-year-old car, yours has only done 9,000 miles, then you're probably wrong

Mine is 1999, and it had done 54000 when I bought it 7 months ago. It's done a heck of a lot more since then. I live in a very small town, so have to do some miles to get out and about.0

Not always the case!lilac_lady wrote:I don't do a lot of miles per year but I do get it serviced. Use a smaller local one and you'll save money.
Our local garage have ripped us off on a couple of occasions (yes, i know, once should have been enough! I just tried to give them a second chance!:o )
It's very competetive out there - try ringing round first and practice your 'sharp intake of breath' sounds!:p:wave:
