As you can see with Galaxy, it started in 2008…a lot has changed in 3 years. The project is heavily re-structured. Codename makes it sound covert...it's not the SAS!

Perhaps, but the timescales stated in the article state "a three-year project, codenamed Galaxy, which will see it relaunch its online banking operations and services." URL="http://www.mad.co.uk/Main/Search/MadSearchResults/Articles/26a1b7e6ddd643c7aac941caaf10f9ba/50M-Digitas-alert-as-Lloyds-TSB-reviews.html"]link[/URL. Which coincides almost exactly with speculation that LTSB Internet Banking will update at some point this year.

If by "re-structured" you mean the timescales for role-out, and inclusion of HBOS Online, then I agree.

Couple of other sources about the update:-
    http://inspire.lbigroup.be/?p=310
    http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/news/rss/829515/Lloyds-TSB-hires-LBi-digital-account/
http://www.lbi.com/en/AbuDhabi/news/Lloyds-TSB-selects-LBi/ (company redeveloping LTSB's online, they've also redesigned Barclaycard's online offering)
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

…and it will have an effect on customers in one way or another at first.

    You don't say ... ;)
I had to deposit a cheque in my Halifax current account recently (a regular occurrence, and not a big one) and I was asked for ID. I pointed out that I had banked with them for decades, so why did they need ID now.
I was told "it is because we have been taken over by Lloyds TSB, and we have a form to fill in to say we have checked your ID".
Needless to say I was not carrying any ID with me (other than quite a few Halifax cards - which apparently were no good, although a debit card from another bank would have been).
    The world's gone mad!

...and I can bet you the person behind the counter thought exactly the same.

Anyway, depositting cheques into account?!?! If you had the card or even account number, they should let you do it! I did this yesterday into the missus' account yesterday in Natwest no problems. Madness, I agree.

Unfortunately, they seemed to be totally unconcerned or not even interested.
  • Probably not a case of being unconcerned or uninterested, but when there is nothing they can do to change the process what do you expect them to say?

They day we start paying for a banking service will be they day we have a right to complain about such small detail.

Sorry, surely the bank would prefer to know if customer object to their online interface. The alternative is that Bank A comes up with a right PITA interface and all the smart customers leave and take their money with them. Any bank that had the attitude take or leave it would not survive in a competitive world. So I can't that you speak for the banks.

Plus, IMO, banks can't design security. How many banks ask you for just 3 letters from you password? Hello, a 3 letter password is not secure and just because I'm picking 3 letters from a 10 character word does not change the probability of guessing it. It is the same as a random 3 letter password.

I suspect the change has more to do with aligning the interface with Lloyds or some other management ideal. Certainly it will have nothing to do with what customers want (call me a cynic).

Just noticed a link to this page whilst on online banking: https://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/important-information.asp

Not being able to change your username seems odd. What happens if some fraudster gets hold of it? i know they cant do anything without a password and security questions, but they know 1 part of a 3 part security sign in process.

I'm assuming they'll assign numbers for new customers and probably eventually for existing customers. Most banks and BSs use a number to logon, which you are unable to change. I assume it is more secure as people won't use that number as a logon for other websites.
