Removing Tight Screw From Wooden Gate

I bought a house in the last few months and as the house was vacant the seller put a screw through the back gate into the frame to stop it opening.

I have tried the drill with screw attachment as well as brute force, the screw doesn't budge.

Has anyone any tips for loosening the screw?

Try tightening it very slightly - sometimes that frees it from being stuck in the wood, and you can then unscrew it.

Probably easiest to cut through the screw with a hacksaw blade if possible.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

  • cut it out, but Id use a small angle grinder as youll be able to get much closer in otherwise you will leave a small sharp bit sticking out which will really hurt. Plus angle grinding is fun:j

Take a small metal drill bit, and drill the centre out of the screw. Start small, and increase the bit size in stages until the screw just falls away.

Thanks, I will give it a go.

Hopefully I won't have to wheel the bin through the house anymore.
