bare engine is just the engine block and cylinder head everything else is transferred from the old engine.
make sure the salvage firm provide a warranty with it.

THanks for the reply. Not being a car man, could you advise if I need the complete engine or just bare block because of the head gasket failure?

Buy same as what you have now and strip current car for bits before getting scrap metal value out of it. Needs Haynes manual, plenty of time, and storage for bits. (Edit: forgot tools). That way if you have anything fail on the next car, you have experience of removing the appropriate part and the part to replace the broken part.

a lot of cars even sheds have service history

inspection? why not i do them for £40 not including an hpi check

Theres the £500 down to £460.
When you say service history, i mean full service history. I've never bought a car at that price with one.
Just out of curiosity, what sort of guarantee comes with the £40 inspection? If you miss something, would the customer be covered?

On a fundamental level either would be fine. Personally I'd ask your garage how much it'll cost either way (bare will be more work for the garage and therefore more likely to be expensive)

    In terms of £500 Cars

    Escorts
    Fiestas
Rover 100's (curve ball, but very very undervalued imho)

There used to be a phrase "if you can't afford a car, buy a ford"
Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male:

i have created a check list based on the aa and rac inspections most of my customers are people buying cheap cars and want an idea of the mechanical condition of the car.seen loads of sheds and told my customers likewise, have also seen loads of bangers with folders full of history

there are no real guarantees and my customers are made aware of this at the start.
the trick is not to miss anything

Not trying to discredit, i would advise any friends going to auction to buy or buying privately to pay the money for someone like yourself to give any car they were interested in the once over. I just wondered what was on offer for £40.
The problem arises when someone that will pay for an appraisal would expect some sort of comeback.
I've never had an inspection done myself, I've always went with a wing and a prayer approach (and TBH i've been VERY lucky).

i am fully insured for such things but i do make it very clear before i start theres no guarantee if they dont agree i wont do it.
so far i've had no probs (only added this service as i was being asked to check cars over for people so thought i may as well charge for it):)
