Stolen goods?

I bought an in-car handsfree kit from this guy:
http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZynotinn2005QQhtZ-1

While it said that it was used the picture in the advert was a stock photo.

Only when it arrived did I think how much it looked stolen item because it had a new mic and that's the hardest part to rip out. I don't think it's the thief actually selling it but maybe someone who knows someone in a pub.
In addition the item location is Birmingham, and the postcode on the return address is BS 7NJ (Bull S*** anyone? -because you won't find it on any online map).

Because of all of this I thought I'd search for the serial number on the new police database that I'd heard advertised in the media.

So I went to google and searched for police+stolen+database. The first result is for boats so I clicked the 2nd result: traceit4u.com
The website is very convincing and it looked like police websites I'd seen before. It had `free` in the corner and seemed to be the website I'd heard about on the news. Because of this I actually gave them my important email address, postal address and clicked next. However, the next screen then wanted £200 for 24 months subscription. So I now await the spam.

So there we go, what a horrible experience for the person willing to spend £30 on doing a good thing (the value of the item).
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker
