This morning had the guy from Carpetright to measure up .

To lay the gripper/underlay and carpet . with one join the labour cost
    for our lounge/dinner is £108

I think thats a reasonable cost for a couple of guys to do the job.

The fitters don't actually work for Carpetright in the same way that B&Q kitchen fitters. They are independent. I know this because I know some people who told me thats what happens.

We used a local firm who fitted all the local show homes - not much of a choice, but because they bought it in bulk, we got a really good deal. Perhaps you could visit the local show homes and ask?

Long time carpetright customer , I know that you pay the independent carpet fitters
on the day. Today your house , tomorrow might be John Lewis , same service.

After visiting many carpet outlets we found Carpet Right were the most competitive. However, their prices for underlay was extortionate! We bought all the underlay for a 4 bedroom house inc stairs and hallway for a third of the price that CR had quoted. My H didnt want to lay the underlay in case any problems with their fitters so I went back in and asked them if their fitter would fit it for us and they said that was fine and only charged us about 30 quid extra. Happy with fitters and carpet 2 yrs on.
  • I am developing my first property. We don't have a lot of money (certainly not now after cowboy builders - see other posts) but I would never dream of going to carpetright. Not only are their carpets poor quality, they are expensive too and not value for money. I have done some homework and found a top, top quality carpet which is 100% wool and the kind that they use in top quality hotels and 5 bed showhomes from as little as £ 4.99 plus vat per sqm. Yes, it will need specialist fitting but even with that it nets out at £ 200 less per room than the local independent who wanted to charge £ 25 per sqm for a cheap synthetic and rather nasty looking carpet. The moral of the tale is you need to hunt out the bargains if you want the look and quality at an affordable price.

    Hi there,

As a professional carpet buyer I know for a fact the you cannot buy wool rich carpet, for as little as you have quoted, unless it is a second or returned stock. Most carpet retailers will offer seconds or returns at greatly reduced prices to clear the stock; but you would really struggle to purchase this type of product for that price. Good luck with that!!! (P.S. make sure you check for fleas....!)

I had my last carpet fitted by Carpetright, living room, stairs and landing. The finished job was fine. Not so great was the fact that at first they'd cut, delivered and tried fitting a blue one as opposed to a cream one. And then had the nerve to ask if I was sure I didn't want it.
