Hotel Pre Auths

She called the hotel and they apologised saying they normally cancel the pre auth but on this occasion they did not.
they stated that they cannot remove it themselves and that the money would go back onto the card automatically after 7 days?0 -
Normal run of the mill hotel pre-authorisation. It will disappear in a few days.
Personally I'd always use a credit card rather than a debit card as it ties up £50. Same with petrol pumps and pay with card.0 -

If they can't .... they can get their merchant acquirer (the people who handle their card payments) to void it. Truth is most of them don't know how the system works .... and the few that do can rarely be bothered to make the effort.
In my experience the number of cases where UK hotels leave you with money tied up like this has diminished substantially over the past few yearsIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
