Credit Expert, AKA Experian the former 'CCN SYSTEM of Nottingham' run a neat little scam with that 'free trial'. After cancelling within the 30 days I went on to be charged for a further two months and having to make a number of calls to get it stopped. All this to get one credit report.
A couple of things to point out, you can get a full copy of your credit file from Experian without signing up to Credit Expert (that's what they want you to do). You can write in with a cheque/postal order and request it. It's always been possible and a requirement in law. You don't have to sign up for anything to get it. There is a form hidden on their site somewhere - but they were a little bit 'awkward' in openly volunteering it the last time I looked.
It's worth noting that signing up to Credit Expert *helps* Experian not only from a financial perspective. When the electoral roll went 'opt "outable"' a few years ago, it meant that they lost lots of address data they previously had available. So people signing up to Credit Expert are rather unwittingly bridging that gap and providing that data - and often paying for the pleasure too boot :-)0 -

Its a sneaky way of grabbing cash from your credit card [without your knowledge]. They ask for your credit card details to perform t,he credit check then take money from it by `hiding' charges that occur after 30 days. It is very difficult to contact them to cancel by any other method than ringing them which is typical of a lot of internet companies. Get you check for FREE and ignore the credit expert who are only expert of grabbing money from you!0

Indeed. It *is* sneaky. If they said "We are going to charge you a monthly fee that exceeds what a one of statutory report would cost you, and make it really awkward to cancel it" I don't think they would have queues of takers. Of equally scumminess is their email business 'cheetah' - universally blocked by many as a source of mainsleaze marketing trash.
Still, soon they will sink to a new all time low grassing up those on benefit who may appear to be 'of means'. It is a grave concern that a credit reference agency will probably have a more than a useful level of access to national lists of benefit claimants, but there you go.0 -
I couldnt actually find a link and was forced to call them was lucky though as i called near closing time when most of them cant be bothered to do the hard sell so you tend to get the cancellation done quickly.0
