Most colleges will do a fee waiver for a lot of courses, and part time or flexible learning won't affect your benefit (although you should still tell the jobcentre).A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Thanks Owain
So if you go for a fulltime you dont have to sign on?
Is there any good info about this anywhere?0 -
If you go into full time education, you wouldn't be able to claim JSA.
If it's higher education (uni) you'd be able to apply for student loans etc
If it's further education (A-level or equiv) you would have to find part time job to support yourself. Altho you may be eligible for Adult learning Grant (approx 30 pounds a week) if it's your 1st qual of that level, or other support if you have kids or a disability.
It would be worth speaking to student services at the college or uni you intend to apply to.
Also, after 6 months, I was told by a JC adviser that I'd be entitled to work focused training which they could arrange for me, so it's worth asking about that.0 -
Your JSA Adviser will be able to refer you to local colleges for any number of different courses, which will be free to you. However they can only be part time. As stated above, if you go into full time education you will need to sign off JSA.“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

The Open University offer their courses for free if you are claiming JSA and they also give you a grant (£250 when I last checked).0

Thanks very much, so if a part time course, do you still get the same money etc. Do you have to sign on still?
What happens if you miss some training does your money stop?0 -
Our local community centres offer a variety of courses, and as long as you tell the JC and continue to look for work, you can still sign on. Many of the courses are free and you can attend more than one at a time. One of the most popular is the teaching assistants course (provided by a local college, but held in the community centre) and some of the students improve their future job prospects by studying other courses such as literacy and maths to level 2, ICT, first aid for children, or food hygiene. Some courses are only a few sessions long, so you're not 'tied in' for weeks on end.
If you get a job, you may have to give up your course if it is at a time you are working.0
