Hi, i posted this on disability & dosh forum, but i was advised to try here, so thanks in advance. can anyone explain two items on the list of personal allowances and premiums. The letter was sent begining of March (they are in the process of sending us a revised one out with the benefit increases on for April 2010 as the first got lost in the post)
this is the letter they send you with a breakdown of everything you are entitled to and take away what you already get I.e child benefit etc
The heading is :How your income support was worked out
How much the law says you need to live on
For the adults in your household
For you and your partner £100.95
Because your partner is sick or disabled £39.15
because you are caring for someone until recently £29.50
Disability income guarantee £39.95
the two items in italics i can't find any reference to to find out exactly how we have qualified for them. I get SDA and DLA, HRC and HRM. My husband is my carer for which he claims carers allowance. He is not disabled in anyway, although my son gets DLA HRC (not sure if this makes a difference as my son's other premiums are listed under, children in the house) I hope i have made sense, i have put our figures into entitledto but i am not sure if the final figure it gives you includes my DLA & SDA or not.

The £39.15 is for you being disabled and having DLA at any level
£39.95 is for you and the child having high care of DLA (This is sometimes called the enhanced disability premium/s, child and adult couple amounts included)
You should claim carers allowance for looking after your child backdated three months its worth an extra £30 weekly to you and about £400 in arrears0 -
many thanks, not sure if we could claim carers as my husband already claims it for me. thank you for taking the time to reply0

Hi,
You can claim CA for your child without it affecting your DLA it happens quite a lot more than people realise.
There are couples who claim it for each other too.

This reads as if your husband is the claimant, you are the partner. Is the letter addressed to him?
I agree with the others that you should claim CA for your son if no-one is already claiming that for caring for your son.0 -
yes my husband is the claiment. i had no idea you could claim carers allowence for my son!!0

You can - same as there are couples who calim CA for each other with no problems. However, you can't give your son care (dress him for example) and claim you're unable to do the same thing yourself.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
