Can I move from BT?

Just a quick question that hopefully someone will know the answer to! I moved house in March and have connected to BT. After we moved I've set about trying to reduce our utilities costs and the phone/broadband are the next!
Is there a penalty (and how much is it) if we cancel our BT line and move to Talk Talk becuase they only conected us in March even though we did move from a BT house so the connection was free? Mr Fritha is worried they tie you into some kind of contract! I've tried searching their website but it's a bit hard to negotiate and they're a bit vague!
Thanks for your help :-)

I think a 'reconnection' (as yours appears to have been) only ties you for 3 months - so there should be no penalty.
However, before you even consider that, please click the two links in my signature below and read the many and various threads about Talk Talk here in the MSE forums.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz that was really helpful, I've read both the links thoroughly so I can make a proper informed decision :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0
