What to plant under a plum tree?

New allotment has a plum tree in the middle - any ideas of what I could plant under it.

Not sure of plum variety - but tree is very upright and has minimal spread. I wondered about planting some other fruit or maybe herbs?

    How about poached egg flowers, they reseed themselves each year and are lovely for the bees and your eyes.
    You can't do too much under it, as the tree will take all the moisture and nutrients from the soil.

    Bung a few packets of native wild flower seed - if something doesn't grow it's not a disaster, and if it does, it looks lovely and attracts beneficial insects.
