Quit my job, am I entitled to any benefits?

So I quit my job last week for a number of reasons. It was an ongoing temporary full time position that was quite inflexible in that I had/have a number of interviews lined up and proved difficult to time off at short notice etc. I went for a second interview last week that I haven't heard back from yet and I have another next week. These roles are permanent and more related to my degree.
I wasn't going to bother with the jobcentre as I am really hoping to get one of these other jobs however my mum says I should just in case to keep me right with NI contributions etc (I know nothing about this) and in case I don't get another job any time soon.
Will I be entitled to any benefits? I have read that you can't get JSA for up to 26 weeks if you quit your job so is there an alternative?

You MIGHT be sanctioned for leaving a job voluntarily but, if you are, that sanction will start from the point when you first make a claim so you might as well claim straight away in case your period of unemployment is longer than you expect.
Good luck with the jobhunting.0 -
