An Appeal - Members in Cheshire / S Manchester Area

This is more of an appeal for information, rather than a money saving tip so I didn't really know where to post it

At approx 1.50AM on Sunday Morning, I was travelling along the A536 in Macclesfield , when I rounded a corner and was hit head on by a car on the wrong side of the road. Fortunately, although I was knocked off the road I escaped uninjured and nobody else was hurt.

However, the driver of the other vehicle who caused the accident overtaking on a blind bend, did not stop, and continued on his / her journey towards Macclesfield. Two witnesses who were being overtaken at the time also stopped to check that I was okay, and one of their vehicles was also damaged in the collision.

Naturally I am likely to end up footing the bill for the extensive damage to my vehicle, either out of my own pocket or through increased premiums if I claim off my own insurers. Of course all of those involved and the police are anxious to trace the motorist who caused this.

Somebody could have been killed, and this B*stard didn't even stop to make sure that those he hit and rammed off the road were OK, according to the witnesses and lack of skid marks he / she didn't even attempt to slow down!.

I am not interested as to the reason why this person did not stop, all I am interested in is getting their insurance details and getting my vehicle (and business) back on the road.

I am sure that had this happened to you, that you would feel exactly the same way and would take every opportunity you could to trace the person reponsible, hence why I am appealing for info on every forum that I am a member of.

All I know, is that the car was black and had square / rectangular headlamps. Possibly similar to a Citroen AX or Older style peugeot. There would be quite significant damage to the drivers side, and it would probably still have red paint from hitting my vehicle embedded in it.

So can I ask you, that if you live /work / visit anywhere within the general Macclesfield / Poynton / Stockport area to keep an eye out for damaged vehicles, or if you woke up on Sunday Morning to spot a neighbours car (or one on your road) that is black and damaged as per the above description then please PM me in confidence. It will be easy to eliminate any cars which were not involved, so I am not starting a witch hunt, i'm just appealing for any possible leads.

If anybody has any other information on how to trace this vehicle then please post.

Thanks for reading.

If they have done this to you they may have been part of another crime as well e.g. Petrol Station Drive off.

All cars need fuel so they may have stopped shortly after for fuel or even a drink as I'm sure they would have been in shock from it all as well.

Maybe worth an ask at a local petrol station.

Thanks for the advice so far. The police aren't really that interested because nobody was injured. Before the accident I would assume that the car had been undamaged or otherwise unremarkable in its appearance. I think there would be above one black car who filled up with petrol on a busy saturday night / sunday morning so without any obvious observations to set it apart, like a scarf in the rear window or other feature then it would be a needle in a haystack.
The other driver may not be insured anyway

I realise this, however its the principle of the matter. This person could actually be boasting how he / she got away with it, and be pig headed enough to take the same risks again, and the next time the driver may not be so lucky.

    .

I can't speak. Do the police not think it would be better to catch this clown BEFORE they kill someone?

Well, my phone went flying in the impact, but a witness who saw what had happened and stopped to help, immediately called the police fearing the worst. We all waited for about 25 minutes beside the road, and although non of us were to blame, we all swapped details.

We made another call to the police, asking why it was taking so long to come out to us. The operator asked if anybody was injured, and truthfully we replied, no, the reply was that as long as we had exchanged details and nobody was injured there was no need for the police to attend, and yes they were told that the driver who caused the accident, did not stop at the scene.

........and this was approx 25 minutes after the witness called the police to report a serious head on collision, and before it was ascertained that I was uninjured.
