You can claim WTC as a single childless non-disabled person if you're over 25 and work 30+ hours a week. Living with parents doesn't matter.
Well I never knew that! A relative of mine might be able to claim this.
He was unemployed until December 2009 (for approx 1 year), then he got a job for 2 months (January & February 2010, then found a better job with more prospects in March 2010 and his salary is £13,500.
Is he too late to claim for it, he was never told he could claim this when he was getting unemployment benefit?0 -
Seems some people just like me didnt realise where im in a situation that is legit where i can claim. Ive told them all my details and they are well aware that this tax year I will be earning around £14.5k. I dont feel I deserve it but id be stupid not to right? It is indeed a strange system. I urge anyone over 25 who has been unemployed to take advantage of this. Next year im informed I will probably get nothing and thats fine. But for a year its good news right. I was told as long as my earnings this year arnt over £25k more than the last then I wont be overpaid.0

The Tax Credit is calculated on your previous years income until you provide us with an estimate of your income for the current year. If you don't provide us with estimated income for 2010/2011 and your income at the end of the tax year is higher than the estimate we have for the previous year, you will end up with an overpayment.
If you are single, aged over 25, and working over 30 hours a week (the criteria for single claims with no children) Working Tax Credit entitlement will reduce to £0.00 with an income of over £14000.00.0 -
Thanks for that info TaxCreditHelp - this is how I thought it worked, as why would they ask you to estimate what your income was going to be for the year?0

You can claim Tax Credit at any point during the Tax Year. If it is a brand new claim then this could get backdated up to a maximum of 93 days... depending on certain criteria.0

Hello, can i ask,, what criteria that is?
I have been working since sept 2009, only found out about it by my landlords a couple of month back, not really sure how i was suppose to find out that i was entitled to it, job centre were absolutely useless when i was signing on and off:(0 -
As long as you're entitled to Tax Credits, if you're submitting a brand new claim it will be backdated 93 days if you're entitlement extend to the previous 93 days. The main Tax Credit helpline on 0845 300 3900 will help you to work out your entitlement and be able to send you a claim pack.0
