Seller no longer registered

Anyone know how i can check if a seller is legite or not? Feedback left previously seems genuine, the items they were selling seems a bit suss. the seller id is lisaloizenda. I won an item but have yet to pay for it, and now dont know whether to or not?

Personally I'd be a bit wary on this one. If you look at the feedback history a lot of the recent auctions can't be accessed as they're showing as 'Private'. And those that do have links....you click on them....and then come up with a message about the auction being removed or cancelled.

Possibly me being a bit over cautious...but I'm sure other's will post their thoughts.

I wouldn't say that was overcautious.

You don't have to pay if the seller has been NARUd... and it looks like that seller was NARUd for a good reason.

Have ebay sent you a message telling you not to pay? They usually do in such cases.

I reckon they were kicked off for selling pirate DVDs. Is that what you bid on?

The item i bid on was listed as brand new, it even stated the dvd was "just like you would buy in the shop". I was given a second chance offer on a David Attenborough LIfe collection set for 12.50 and 19 p&p, which i assumed was a bargain but obviously its a fake. I double checked the listing for anything which may suggest fakes or copies but it looked pretty legit. I've got the guys number so might give him a ring in a bit and see what he says.

He'd be stupid to put anything on the listing that would give away that he was selling fakes... that would be asking to get kicked off ebay.

    Bet you a tenner he's a bootlegger.

    Hi

I have just recently bid and won the Geisha DVD and book box set but started to become suspicious when they e-mailed me their bank details in order to pay. Luckily I waited a while and now that they are no longer a registered user think that this was a scam. They have sold thousands of pounds worth of dvds in the last 5 days so I feel sorry for anyone who has paid them as it looks like they may not get the goods!!

So the first piece I've quoted you as saying didn't ring any alarm bells for you?
Obviously not as you went on to say the second quote.

Just a question really, why is a bank transfer 'dodgy'? OK I admit that as a buyer I wouldn't use a bank transfer as I have a policy of paypal only so I wouldn't use a cheque or a postal order either. However as a seller I automatically send all my details to a buyer just in case they prefer to use it as it is quicker for them than a cheque and ocassionally I do come across buyers that don't use paypal.

What were the payment methods offered in the auction?

There are a lot of dodgy DVD sellers on ebay so it is always worth looking for those who have a good history via feedback and don't have any unusual terms in their description like th eone posted earlier ""just like you would buy in the shop".

I have been buying and selling on e-bay now for 5 years and I have never given out my bank details or received them from anyone as I remember being warned by e-bay never to give out your bank details over e-mail. I would never give my details out because of the risk of fraud. I tend to use paypal as you are generally covered if anything goes wrong or for people who do not use paypal, cheque or postal order.

I have been asked for my bank details before when I sold to someone abroad but declined as I feel it is just too risky.

Their feedback didn't look dodgy to me as they had 44 feddback and 100% positive.

I also didn't find the quote "just like you would buy in the shop" worrying as there are many fakes and copies selling on e-bay and they may well have been just trying to use the term to explain that it was genuine.

They also offered postal order and cheque as a payment option and for speed I was going to send a postal order.

It could be that the dvd's never existed in the first place as hundreds finished over five days and all of them were pictures copied from somewhere rather than there own image. Maybe they were genuine and e-bay have banned them or they have taken payments received up to now and then cancelled e-bay membership - who knows.

I won't be sending payment now and hopefully those who have paid will get their goods although it doesn't seem likely.

What did he say when you rang?

Oh, and remember you give out your bank details every time you write a cheque.
