where to start lost po card.

My dad is an OAP and sadly has a drink problem. i dont live with him but check on him when i can. he has been to the post office and they say he cant withdraw money without his card which he has lost. he has been tealt to go for crisis loans (which i find a joke) when he has at least 4-5 weeks money in the PO. he has been given a number from the post office to get a new card, but on arrival at the PO they say they have no new cards. he has no house phone and has been with no money for 4-5 weeks. apart from 2 crisis loans i havent been to the PO with him yet but plan on going to see him again tomorrow with my mobile phone. i have manged to dig out his birth lines and passport (well seamanship card ) no photo and expired as he was in the merchant navy. he also tealt me the number you get from the post office is invalid after 24 hours. i promised i would go down and see him tomorrow with as much id i have of his (which has been in the family home) him and my mum are devorced. I tealt him if he phones the number from my phone and doesnt get any joy to make an appointment with the social work department, but he is reallly been house bound and i am unsure of how to help him. i was away on holiday and came back to find he still didnt get this problem sorted. surely he can withdraw money with his account details (post office staement) and birth lines and seamanship card. where to start i dont know .

thanks i bookmarked that link. i really want to help my dad sort this out as he cant really do it by himself. he really should have a carer and i can only loan him a little money and check on him when i can as i am a student and only work part time.

Has he been able to drink since he lost his card (and his income) or he is dry?

he has a friend staying with him. who has been supporting him. i was on holiday and thought he would be able to sort the problem himself. but he obviously cant and is just accepting the PO telling him he cant get money. a only checked on him today and could not believe he still has not been able to get money from his account. i will visit him tomorrow morning as i have a free day and take my mobile so he can phone the po line. surely he can get money from his account with relvant id and a ref number from the po helpline. (which he has had b4 but has tealt me is only valid for 24hrs.) i cant b there 24 7 for him but want to help him get a new card he is sometimes stubborn on leaving the house and sorting things out himself. i can only help him so much.

not really sure. gets pension credit and i think its income support. am not sure.

if the card has been reported to the post office as lost, the post office can issue an emgerency payment. It works by the post office counter calling their help line and obtaining a authorisation to over-ride their vault card, to give your dad an emergency payment. As far as I am aware is only about £20, but they will only do it a few times until the replacement card arrives.

i would ask benefits ppl to pay future payments by giro while he waiting on new card they can do this
