The IoM government seems to be talking about things I don't recognise as current in Engerland...
I suspect IoM has different laws and likely me (and some others here,..) may not know the rules...
(for example stating there must be a rent book for monthly paid tenancies, and that it is a criminal offence if there ain't one, page 3)
In your shoes I'd consult an IoM solicitor who specialises/has some knowledge of in Landlord & Tenant law in the IoM
Otherwise an expensive mistake could be made...
Cheers!

thanks for that lodger! i'll show it to our solicitor and i'll get my husband to ask the letting agent when he pays the rent next month.
it would be awesome if we exchanged by then so we could put the month notice that would correspond to the 5 months from agreement date but that might not happen.
thanks for the links.. actually, i think i'll pop down to the office of fair trading - this is one of the awesome things on the island, you can just turn up at a government office and someone will speak to you!0 -
you can just turn up at a government office and someone will speak to you!
You can do that in Engerland too you know.... they usually say "If you don't leave right now I'll have you arrested"...
Sigh!!
Cheers!

haha i used to live in manchester. i once called dvla and had to go through 7 menus to speak to a person who then told me i could either come to glasgow or go to london to use the dvla document checking system (it's called something else but i don't remember - basically they take copies of your documents rather than you having to send your passport etc) - over here, you can turn up at the office which is conveniently situated at the sea terminal. they also respond to emails really swiftly.
then again, 10% of our population works for the government.0 -
haha thanks for the advice! i'll use it!0
