Greenhouse automatic window opener problem - any way to fix?

I have a wooden greenhouse, and all the windows have the automatic opening do-das on them. One of them is not working this year, and looks to have some 'goo' or escaped wax around the piston part (if that makes sense. The window is not opening and closing when it should, although the other 2 windows with this kind of fitting are fine.

Doe anyone have any idea whether I can fix this or not? I don't want to have to buy a new opener if there is a simple way to make it better.

Many thanks for any help.

Don't know, buut I do know that they work by having an oil inside that expands in the heat. Sounds as though yours has sprung a leak, but don't know if it can be fixed. Most likely not...

They are parasene Jemp Vents. They are about £20 on Amazon for the whole thing or you can get a new cylinder for about £10 - plus postage. Google it to see what you can find.

I think if the wax is leaking out it's a goner. Maybe you could see if the the maker's trade name is on it and give them a ring to see if there's any way of salvaging it?
