Esa

I have just spoke to job centre plus and they say i am now on income based ESA, but i used to be on contributions based ESA, can anyone tell me the difference?

Income as follows:

ESA £105.05 per week (including disabled element, main phase)
DLA £90.35 per week

Partner has just been accepted for carers allowance at £53.90 but wont get it for a while as they need to speak to ESA about his backdate amount?

I was sent a change of circumstances form few weeks ago and filled it in and since then i seem to be on income based ESA.

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

    Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance

You may be entitled to claim contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance if you have paid enough National Insurance contributions.
    Income-based Employment and Support Allowance

You may be entitled to claim income-based Employment and Support Allowance if you do not have enough money coming in, or you have not paid enough National Insurance contributions, and you satisfy the entitlement conditions.
This means that you have savings of less than £16,000 and, if you have a partner or civil partner, they work for less than 24 hours a week on average.

Income Related is means tested and can be paid to a couple - which appears like it is happening for you. It can be paid at a higher rate than ESA(C).

Not sure what the payment will be exactly, you will get the carer premium, but when the recovery is sorted they will start taking the £53.10 (£53.90) into account too.
